Cercis siliquastrum
\nA small bushy deciduous tree often grown with multiple stems.
\nHas a number of common names European Redbud, Love Tree but perhaps best known as The Judas Tree.
\nNative to the Eastern Mediterranean Cercis siliquastrum was first introduced into the British Isles in the 1600’s.
\nReputed to be the tree from which Judas Iscariot hanged himself hence the common name.
\nCercis siliquastrum is an awesome sight in May with clusters of rosy pink pea-like flowers smothering the entire tree, often from the surface of bare branches and even from the trunk itself.
\nThe pretty, green, heart shaped leaves emerge after the flowers and later turn wonderful shades of yellow and brown creating a colourful autumn display.
\nWhen the flowers have faded in late July large bunches of rich, purple tinted seed pods appear and decorate the branches of Cercis siliquastrum well into winter.
\nA beautiful and spectacular flowering tree and a must for any garden large enough to give it justice.
\nFlowers best in full sun and after a long warm summer the previous year.
\nDespite its association with Judas Iscariot it is now much sought after.
\nCercis siliquastrum dislikes being moved and it is recommended that it is transplanted to its final position when young.
\nRoyal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

\nGarden HQ have put together an interesting on HOW TO GROW this spectacular tree.
\nWe ask all our buyers to remember plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.\n\n We want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Cercis are checked and inspected visually before packing. at . . Due to the nature of the goods we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll.
