DICENTRA
\nspectabilis
\nValentine
\nA native of eastern Asia, Dicentra has collected many common names during its long history as a cottage garden plant, Bleeding Heart, Dutchmans Breeches and Lady in the Bath are but a few.
\nA great naturalising but non-invasive clump forming perennial with dark green, deeply lobed foliage.
\nNoted for its wonderful floral displays Dicentra spectabilis Valentine produces stunning, scarlet-red flowers with protruding white petals in late spring.
\nThese heart shaped flowers dangle enticingly above the foliage on gracefully arching burgundy coloured stems.
\nGreat for planting in flower beds or borders or for under-planting roses or shrubs.
\nNo cottage or informal garden would be complete without a Dicentra yet at just 50-60 cm tall it is adaptable enough to grow in patio tubs and containers.
\nCan also be used as a cut flower.
\nDicentra Valentine flourishes in humus rich soil especially under tall shrubs and trees.
\nAlthough usually grown in shade it can do very well in a sunny spot providing the soil stays sufficiently damp.
\nOnce planted Dicentra does not like to be disturbed.
\nA very popular ornamental plant for flower gardens.
\nAll pictures used are of mature plants in bloom and may not necessarily reflect plants at all times of the year.
\nOur plants of Dicentra Valentine are supplied ex. 9cm pots, they can be planted out immediately but better results may be obtained if they are grown on for a short time in a slightly larger container before transplanting to their final growing positions

\nWe ask all our buyers to remember Dicentra plants are living items and their appearance changes with the seasons. Please don’t panic if the plant you receive looks different to the image on the website. This is quite normal and not a matter for any worry or concern, it is likely to be in perfect condition for the time of year. Particularly in autumn and winter many shrubs will lose their leaves and look rather bare, gaunt and stick-like and from August onwards many perennial plants may not even be showing above the soil.\n\nWe want you to be happy with your purchase and all our Dicentra plants are checked and inspected visually before packing. at . . Due to the nature of the item we cannot accept any responsibility for their failure after planting as pests, disease, poor horticultural practice, extremes of weather and many other factors outside our control all take their toll.
