The VR IMU uses the BNO080 IMU. The IC features a three-axis accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer combination that runs alongside an ARM Cortex M0+ to execute advanced motion algorithms. The BNO080 Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) generates accurate rotation vector outputs, suitable for VR and heading applications, with a static rotation error of 2 degrees or less. The IC is designed for integration into Android-based devices to handle motion calculations required for virtual reality applications using a smartphone. An I2C-based library is provided, delivering rotation vectors, acceleration, gyroscope, and magnetometer readings, step counts, activity classification (e.g., cycling), and calibration support. A demo application is included to demonstrate how IMU motion data—specifically quaternion output—can be used to manipulate 3D objects.
